Phantom® termiticide-insecticide is a popular line of pest management products. It is distributed by BASF, St. Louis, MO. BASF also manufacturers Termidor® products.

While Termidor® is labeled only for outside use, Phantom® products can be used indoors as well as outdoors. The active ingredient in Phantom is chlorfenapyr which is a newer technology active ingredient. Because chlorfenapyr is undetectable to termites, it is considered a non-repellent and has the advantages of treating an infestation without causing any repellency.

Phantom® can be used for various pests including termites, scorpions, bed bugs, flies, spiders, earwigs, and many others. As a termiticide, it can be applied to the soil but also as an indoor treatment for termites or other pests. Depending on the formulation, Phantom® container sizes vary.

Phantom® liquid is a concentrate which is added to water. In the liquid formulation, there is 21.45% chlorfenapyr. Final dilutions vary from 0.125% to 0.25% and the concentration can vary depending on the pest and the soil conditions. As with any liquid termiticide application, extreme care must be taken so that there is no contamination of waters. Also, any holes, which have been drilled to allow the termiticide to reach the soil, must be plugged with a non-cellulose plug. It is also important to determine if there are heating ducts beneath or imbedded in slabs.

Phantom® Pressurized Insecticide controls similar pests as the liquid, but it contains 0.5% in an aerosol can. This product dries quickly and is used for spot treatments of active termite infestations, generally in voids or in cracks and crevices. This product is not designed to be a stand alone for termite control but rather to supplement the use of other types of control strategies.
